Boca Juniors lost 3-0 against Atlético de Rafaela, in “The Bombonera”. This was the second misstep in the Transition Tournament.

After the victory in Córdoba against Belgrano, Boca should have revalidated at home the achievements.

At the beginning, Boca had the bulk of the possession, though they abused with long passes nowhere. Gonzalo Castellani assumed the role of playmaker, but his teammates were hidden behind rivals. The ball seemed to burn to most of them.

The “Xeneize” chose the left side to attack and send centres to the forwards. It was the only poor argument to hurt Atlético de Rafaela. However, Jonathan Calleri headed in two great opportunities, forcing the goalkeeper to clear the ball.

As if this were not enough, Boca also had no luck. On the 36th minute, Mauricio Gómez executed a fatal free kick: the ball bounced off the wall and ended up into the goal. Agustín Orion could not react to save it.

In the second half, Atlético de Rafaela took advantage of the defensive errors and hit twice. Firstly, Federico González defined a good collective action; secondly, Guillermo Fernández, an ex Boca player, sentenced the knockout.

Luciano Acosta and Andrés Chávez replaced José Fuenzalida and Emmanuel Gigliotti, respectively, but the substitutions had no effect in the game. As minutes went by, the nervousness grew and the tactical ideas disappeared. Castellani tried with longshots, though Esteban Conde saved the kicks.

Boca’s performance was from the highest to the lowest and, at the first adversity, they did not take action. Carlos Bianchi’s team is going through a very bad moment and they have to react immediately. The next match will be on August 27th at 9:30 p.m. (Argentina time), against Estudiantes in La Plata.
